About Blackout Ammunition
Specialists in 8.6 Blackout & 300 Blackout ammunition, barrels and uppers
Blackout Ammunition is a specialist, USA-based ammunition retailer built around a single family of cartridges: the Blackout calibers. While the rest of the industry treats 8.6 Blackout and 300 Blackout as a footnote next to 5.56 and 9mm, they are all we think about. That focus is the whole point of this store. When you buy from a specialist, you get accurate inventory, honest advice, and a team that actually understands how these rounds behave in a suppressed, short-barreled rifle.
Who we are
We are shooters first and a storefront second. Blackout Ammunition exists because the calibers we love were hard to find in stock and even harder to get straight answers about. Most general ammunition warehouses can sell you a box, but they cannot tell you whether a 285gr subsonic load will stabilize in your barrel, or which grain weight pairs best with your suppressor. We can, because we live in this ecosystem every day. Our catalog is curated, not endless — every product earns its place because it serves the 8.6 and 300 Blackout shooter.
That specialization shapes everything: the products we stock, the way we photograph and describe them, the depth of our FAQ and guides, and the speed at which we answer a question about twist rate or gas systems. We would rather be the best store in the world for two cartridges than a mediocre store for two hundred.
What we specialize in
Our core business is loaded ammunition in two calibers, available in subsonic and supersonic loads across the grain weights that matter:
- 8.6 Blackout ammo — heavy .338 subsonic and supersonic loads from roughly 210gr up to 342gr, built for suppressed hunting and short-barrel performance.
- 300 Blackout ammo — the most versatile cartridge you can run in an AR-15, in subsonic 190–220gr and supersonic 110–150gr loads.
- Subsonic ammo and suppressor-ready loads for shooters whose first priority is a quiet, hard-hitting round.
Beyond ammunition, we carry the parts that complete a Blackout build — 8.6 Blackout barrels, complete uppers, and projectiles and brass for reloaders. The goal is simple: you should be able to put an entire setup together in one place, from someone who shoots it.
The calibers we live and breathe
8.6 Blackout
8.6 Blackout (8.6×43mm) was developed by Q, LLC — the same innovators behind the original .300 AAC Blackout and the Honey Badger. It fires a heavy .338-caliber bullet from a shortened 6.5 Creedmoor case and uses an extremely fast twist rate (often around 1:3) to stabilize long, heavy subsonic projectiles. The result is a round that stays quiet under a suppressor while delivering deep penetration and devastating terminal performance. It runs on AR-10 / .308-pattern rifles and purpose-built bolt actions, and it has quickly become the heavy hitter of the suppressed-hunting world.
300 Blackout
.300 Blackout (300 AAC Blackout, or 7.62×35mm) was designed in 2010 by Advanced Armament Corporation and Remington to give the AR-15 true .30-caliber performance with nothing more than a barrel swap — same lower, same bolt, same magazines. Load it subsonic for whisper-quiet suppressed shooting, or supersonic for hunting and home defense from short barrels where 5.56 falls short. It is one of the most flexible cartridges ever built for the AR platform, and it remains a cornerstone of everything we do.
Why shooters choose Blackout Ammunition
- We keep it genuinely in stock. 8.6 Blackout in particular sells out across the industry. We focus on real, accurate availability and show live stock status on every product page.
- We know the calibers. Tell us your barrel length, twist rate and suppressor, and we will match you to the right subsonic or supersonic load. That is advice you simply cannot get from a general retailer.
- We ship fast and securely. Orders are packed discreetly and shipped quickly with tracking, so you can follow every shipment from our door to yours.
- We carry the whole ecosystem. Ammo, barrels, uppers and components — everything you need for a complete Blackout build under one roof.
Quality, sourcing and standards
Every load we sell is sourced from manufacturers that build to industry-standard pressures and tolerances. Where applicable, our ammunition is produced to SAAMI-equivalent specifications, with consistent priming, quality brass, and bullets chosen for their intended job — expanding and fracturing projectiles for hunting, match bullets for accuracy, and heavy subsonic loads for suppressed work. We would rather carry fewer products we trust than a wall of loads we do not.
Consistency matters more in the Blackout calibers than almost anywhere else. A subsonic round that varies in velocity can drift in and out of the transonic range, hurting accuracy and reliability. That is why we favor loads with a reputation for lot-to-lot consistency, and why we test and shoot what we sell.
Compliance, safety and responsible selling
We sell ammunition and firearm components in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local laws. Ammunition sales are regulated, and the rules vary by jurisdiction — some states, counties and cities restrict or prohibit ammunition shipments, or require a license. You can read more about ammunition regulation through the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). By ordering from us you confirm that you are of legal age and not prohibited from purchasing ammunition where you live. We take responsible selling seriously, and we will never knowingly ship where we cannot legally do so. Full details are on our shipping and delivery page.
More than ammo — barrels, uppers and components
An 8.6 Blackout build is only as good as the barrel behind it. The fast twist rate that makes the cartridge special only works with the right barrel, which is why we carry purpose-built 8.6 Blackout barrels and complete uppers with the correct twist and threading. Reloaders will find projectiles and brass to roll their own, and our accessories round out the rest of the setup. If you are building from scratch, we are happy to help you spec the whole rifle.
Subsonic, supersonic, and choosing the right load
One of the things that makes the Blackout calibers so rewarding is how much control you have over the round. Both 8.6 and 300 Blackout are built to run subsonic or supersonic, and the load you choose changes the rifle’s entire character. Subsonic loads use heavy bullets that stay below the speed of sound, so paired with a suppressor they are remarkably quiet — ideal for stealthy hunting, pest control, and range time that does not punish your hearing. Supersonic loads trade some of that quiet for velocity, a flatter trajectory, and more energy downrange, which makes them the better choice for reaching out or for defensive use from short barrels. We stock both ends of that spectrum so you never have to compromise, and our subsonic and suppressor-ready loads are a great place to start if quiet is your priority.
Grain weight matters just as much as the supersonic-versus-subsonic decision. In 8.6 Blackout that can mean anything from a 210gr supersonic load to a 342gr subsonic hammer; in 300 Blackout, from a 110gr supersonic round to a 220gr subsonic load. If you are unsure which weight suits your barrel, twist rate, and intended use, just ask — matching the load to the rifle is exactly the kind of question we built this store to answer.
Built for the suppressed rifle
The Blackout family was designed around the suppressor rather than treating it as an afterthought, and that philosophy runs through everything we sell. The fast twist rates these cartridges use — famously around 1:3 for 8.6 Blackout — exist to stabilize the long, heavy subsonic bullets that a conventional barrel would tumble. The payoff is a round that is quiet, accurate, and brutally effective at close to mid range. If you are running a can, or planning to, you are exactly the shooter these calibers were created for, and the loads, barrels, and uppers we carry are chosen with that in mind.
For the reloader
Plenty of Blackout shooters roll their own, and we support that too. Our range of projectiles and brass gives reloaders the components to build consistent subsonic and supersonic loads at home, whether you are chasing a specific velocity node or simply want to shoot more for less. Reloading the Blackout calibers is a deep and satisfying rabbit hole, and we are happy to talk components, seating depth, and powder selection with anyone who wants to get into it.
Guides, education and honest answers
We believe a good ammunition store should make you a more knowledgeable shooter, not just a repeat customer. That is why we put real effort into our blog and our detailed 8.6 Blackout FAQ, covering everything from ballistics and twist rates to suppressor pairing and the practical differences between 8.6 and 300 Blackout. If you cannot find the answer there, our team is a message away — and you will get a straight answer from someone who shoots, not a scripted reply.
Fast, discreet, compliant shipping
When your ammo is in stock, it should be on its way quickly. We pack orders discreetly and securely, ship with tracking, and offer free shipping over a set order threshold. Because ammunition is regulated, we ship strictly in accordance with federal, state, and local law, and we are upfront about any restrictions before you order. You can read the full details on our shipping and delivery page, and our straightforward returns policy backs every order you place with us.
