What rifle does 8.6 Blackout use?

Can I shoot 300 Blackout in my AR-15?

Yes — with a dedicated 300 Blackout barrel. Everything else carries over: the same lower, the same bolt carrier group, and your standard 5.56 magazines at full capacity. Just swap the barrel or upper. Never load 300 Blackout into a 5.56 chamber, as it can chamber and cause a dangerous overpressure event, so always keep the two clearly separated.

Is 300 Blackout good for home defense?

Do I need a suppressor for 8.6 or 300 Blackout?

No, but both calibers were designed around the suppressor and are at their best with one. You can shoot supersonic loads unsuppressed perfectly well; subsonic loads in particular reward a suppressor with near-hearing-safe, low-signature shooting.

What twist rate does 8.6 Blackout need?

8.6 Blackout uses a very fast twist rate, commonly around 1:3, to stabilize its long, heavy subsonic bullets. This is much faster than a typical .30-caliber barrel and is the key to the cartridge’s accuracy and terminal performance. Make sure any 8.6 Blackout barrel you buy has the correct fast twist.

Will subsonic and supersonic loads both cycle my rifle?
